I thought i had brake problems. I hear clicking or popping when I turn. My friend says it sounds like something called a "cr boot". Can anyone tell me what that is? How can I tell if that's my problem? Also is it dangerous? Is it generally exspensive to repair? I have a 99 Chevy Prism.

You may be hearing one of your constant velocity u-joints (CVU) running out of lubrication because of a torn CVU boot, a rubber sleeve that covers the joint at the end of your drive axles. The joint should be inspected and the boot replaced as soon as possible. Repair costs vary but this job can be expensive.

It's probably not the boot so much as the joint. Front wheel drive uses a cv or cr joint so that the shaft that propels the car can flex so you can turn. I'd recommend you get a second opinion from a reliable shop. They can be expensive if you let them go too long, but if it's not the problem and you have it repaired, you'll still have your noise. First of all, is it always there or only when you turn fully, for example, do you hear it when you change lanes, or do you have to actually turn a corner? Can you feel it in the steering wheel, or is it just a noise, it may just be a loose fender skirt rubbing on your tire. You will want to have the brakes checked, as they can cause noise like this if they have a problem. Good Luck

These answers are correct, probably a dry CV joint. You can repack it with grease and install a split boot yourself that does not require pulling the axle. Check your local auto parts store.
