Here are my thoughts...

Argentina played well overall.. not a stellar performance, but they played to a plan. They didn't scout their 1st team, but they were still attacking throughout the game.

Really wise decision from Alfio Basille to play Messi and Mascherano at the end. He made up the plan to not be over aggressive in the first 60 minutes, but once he knew that the game was going as planned (i.e. Paraguay not attacking), he took the chances and went all out with Messi and Mascherano and it paid out.

How in the world did Paraguay beat Colombia 5-0? Paraguay's performance was in no way near Colombia's in their match against Arg.

I am starting to believe that Messi is a great player in the class of Maradona, Pele etc. His entrance into any game changes the pace and strategy of the game. The opponents have to really adjust to him and the team once he is on the field... Did anyone notice that yesterday? Paraguay started to mark him and foul him once he gets the ball.

Mr. Lonestar.. good for you bud... Please go watch Paint dry or glass grow.. At least you will have a better life that way... You are worse than a bird in a cage who thinks the cage itself is the world. Possibly Billions of people in the world would be insane to be crazy fans of soccer, right? I am wondering if Baseball world Series (involving just American teams) or NFL world competition (involving just American teams again) is of better interest to you...

Argentina was more laid back last night.... They didn't play Messi and Mascherano because there really was no need for them at the beginning.. If you notice, Argentina always tests out the other team in the first half and nails them in the second... (They also get cauky and more relaxed after they stick the first goal.)
I know there was no need for Riquelme but where was he??
Every match is different.. You can't say: how come Paraguay beat Colombia, just because of the comparison.. Colombia really doesn't have a good team going on right now.. Sure, they are okay.. Did you see how they goalie got a red card when they played against USA?? LOL what morons!
Anyway, yes, they were attacking Messi.. But, Paraguay made a LOT of fouls that the stupid Ref didn't count...
Teves messed up a lot.. (Odd because he's great) That game SHOULD have ended 3-0 but Argentina wasn't very aggressive...
Anyway-- I'm sure after Argentina defeats Peru that we'll be up again Mexico... That's going to be a GREAT game to watch...

Bye

well u gotta take into account that the likes of diaz ibarra gago gonzales palacio aimar will be most likely be on the bench for the next game i dont think they ever looked worried and controlled the game right the way through most of the sloppy passing came from gonzales some of his passing was absolutely shocking its as if he was hoping someone would be there rather than looking to see if they were, ur only starting to believe messi is in the class of maradona, pele etc!? maybe being from argentina ya hear it a lot, "heres the new maradona" but the first time i saw him play was on a bad video and he was only 6 i thought it was maradona as a kid and from speaking to argies i know a lot of u dont like european football so are a little late in realising it,as opposed to when u had tevez etc playing at home watching him week in week out, the only way any team can stop messi is to kick him and foul him like chelsea could only do this the year barca won the CL i do believe he was only 17 then and so long as he stays away form the drugs he will acheive greater things than maradona, i mean u could argue that he already has! maybe not yet but as maradona was the greatest player to grace this earth we can only wait till messi is finished until we can recognise what he acheived, since maradona himself said "finally a player that can acheive greater success than i have has arrived" this was long before everyone else would recognise how good he was, do u all remember how maradona would go crazy when when messi came on against serbia etc?, "the man" himself knows, about time eveyone else does

for those of u who werent lucky enough to see barca giving chelsea a lesson in football from 02:40 - 03:30 u will see the only way a team can stop messi

Remember that Basile won the 1991 Copa America...

Yesterday, most of the players in the field were defensive, for the exception of Palacio, Tevez and Aimar (didn't play that good though)... they lacked offensive, they couldn't penetrate or create possibilities to attack, they need someone specialized in that field.. and whalaa.. Messi for Cambiasso (a defensive midfielder for an attacking one), then Mascherano for Luis González.. so, here we had 4 attackers and 6 defensives... when the goal was scored.. an attacker left (Aimar) and a defensive came (Ayala)...

He'd everything prepared, besides, the public was yelling - Messi, Messi, Messi !!!!...

Really, it was pretty entertaining to see the benched team doing a wonderful job against a defensive Paraguay without several key players (Morel, Santa Cruz, Cardozo, etc)...

Colombia lost on counterattacks(4 of the 5 goals were counterattacks).....Last three goals were in the last 10 minutes.....where Colombia defense was decimated....they just stunk that night......Colombia had their chances to tie that game.....but when a team is going for a goal...it leaves your defense wide open.....Regardless

Last night game looked like Boca Juniors and guests...for the Argentinian squad....lol....
El Pato
Nico Burdisso
El Gata Diaz
El ***** Ibarra
Gago
Tevez
Palacios
All played with Boca and not including Roman on the bench and Paraguay's goalie Bobadilla

Argentina did Ok with the squad they sent out....Paraguay did well to stand their ground...Argentina were unlucky a few times...Great goal by Masherano

Good Luck against Peru

Actually, I felt Argentina's performance was sub-par. The team chemistry was WAY off from what it was their previous games. They looked shaky, their passing was disrupted many times and they got lucky Paraguay didn't score on the counter attacks. Their defense was terrible, excluding Zanetti who was phenomenal, as always.
Argentina missed way too many good chances, which is unlike them because they rarely make mistakes. The people that played really well in my opinion were Gago and Zanetti, Gago was great killing the counter attacks, and setting up attacks, and Zanetti, well, they don't call him "Il Trattore" (the tractor) for nothing, he was brilliant on the left moving the ball up no matter how many people got in his way. Then Messi and Mascherano came in, Messi created the opportunity, Mascherano scored, the last person you would expect to score.

I maximum say Argentina has between the terrific communities obtainable, i think of they the Copa u . s . a . of their sleeve. Paraguay replaced into stable yet Argentina has incredible strikers, Messi as an occasion, in case you bypass away him on my own and he gets the ball lots of the situations it truly is the two a faul or a objective. The have lots of stable gamers it maximum it difficult to % the national team.

I think that Argentina looked tired. They were the better team but just couldn't convert for most of the game. Sometimes this is bad luck and sometimes it's sloppy play. I think they were a tad sloppy and got lucky that they scored when they did.

Although they never gave up - which is something they deserve credit for as well.

Here is my unbiased opinion:

I don't give a rat's rump. Soccer is the most boring game on the planet. Watching paint dry or grass grow is more exciting.
Curling is positively riveting by comparison.

LATER: Don't try to make this a bash America and Americans answer. I am happy to watch international competition in exciting sport, such as hockey for example. Just not this dull, boring game. I know why those fans riot. After 3 hours of watching that back and forth and swilling beer, who wouldn't riot. And grass grows, not glass.
