In no particular order, I like the names Sarah, Charlotte, Samantha, Susan, Helen and Polly. The only thing I worry about is that they might be a bit on the old fashioned side, but I think they're pretty. What do you think?

Tracy - I could possibly see Chandler for a boy, but not for a girl.

I hate the name Hortense, like the name Gwen, and wouldn't use the name Gertrude because the poor girl would be called 'Gertie'.

I like Samantha the best. Polly is cute, but I could see her getting teased. I would say Helena over Helen. Sarah is way to common. Charlotte is alright.

Helena seems like it could be a younger version of Helen. Sarah, too common, Charlotte and Samantha are pretty. Polly...not my favorite..what about Molly, Camilla, or Camille? Those could be cute too.

Very old fashioned, your daughter might be teased in school for having the same name as everyones grandma if you pick Helen or Susan.
Polly? Ew,
Sarah is soooooooo popular.
Samantha is okay.
I love Charlotte, its a great name. The only downside is that there are no good nicknames.

Think also about the long term effect. For instance, Samantha is a very pretty name, yet in the future, she will more than likely be call "Sam". Charlotte will be "Char" and Susan will be "Suzzie". If you do not like these nick names, than those names should no longer be considered. Also, think of when your child is out in the neighborhood, or somewhere outside unseen. When you go to call this child, you have to yell the name several times.... I suggest you takes these names and yell them four or five times in a row. Alot easier to yell SAM five times than Samantha...lol. No wonder our parents called us by short names...LOL. :-)

I think as a rule you can't go wrong with old fashioned names. Of the ones you mentioned, I prefer the first three to the last three -- they don't sound quite as prudish.

And people should be careful when they choose strange names for their children. Names a huge part of the way their children are going to relate to the world. There are a lot of economic studies that show that having a strange name can cause problems because it can create undesirable first impressions. It can reduce the likelihood of getting a job interview, for example.

Susan, Helen & (especially!) Polly are AWFUL hideous old-lady names. Stick w/Sarah, Charlotte or Samantha -- they're much prettier.
