I think first that the word is overused; very few things in this world are truly permanent. Something that is permanent cannot change, end, go away, etc. While there are a few things for which it is appropriate, most of the times I hear it, there is a more accurate word that should be used.

Permanent MARKER, indelible INK, love that knows no boundaries. This is why:

My younger brother is an amazing artist. When he was two he did his first mural - on my mom's bedroom wall - in permanent black marker. She kept it. Years later, she wallpapered her room - and papered AROUND the drawing (which is only about a 50 cm off the floor!). She even made a frame for it!

My brother is now 27... mom's room has been changed many times. When they took the wall down to make the room bigger, she cut the picture out of the wall and had it framed for real. We tease my brother that when he draws he writes on hearts with permanent marker. He is wonderful... and my mom is one of the most kindly women alive.

So... there you have it. Permanent marker (in my family) is writing on hearts with love you NEVER want to erase... and couldn't if you tried.

Strangely enough 'Regret ' I've always been a restless soul,
and the concept of permanence doesn't sit well with me.
So the idea that a state of affair is permanent fills me with a strange sadness.

Love.
Why?
Do I really have to say.
In one of your questions you asked if our life span were 10 years how would our perception change towards Life, Love, and Everything.
I answered that it may become a hurry or a hustle or mainly not for the willing. But...the importance will not be ended. Love will remain.
Because it takes much much much more than death, life, existence, universe....whatsoever, it takes more than that to end Love.
So yes, when you say Permanent...the first thing that comes to my mind is LOVE.
