Look at the people who are less fortunate than you--handicapped, poor, sick , orphaned etc etc etc etc etc ,,,,,,,
Think how fortunate you are in comparison and cheer will automatically step in.
Now look at the trees, birds and flowers. Enjoy the beauty around you.
Watch the Emperor Penguin Oscar winning documentary film.
Think what a life we would have led if we were born as Penguins.
Your outlook on life will change.
Develop a sense of humour and learn to appreciate jokes.Giggle a bit for silly little things by a little word play and dry wise cracks. You will definitely change.

I am also a deep thinker and always have been. I've struggled with depression, low self-esteem, and moodiness, etc. While I think my deep thinking actually caused a lot of negativities, it has been a blessing because it was through my deep thinking that I got myself to a better place emotionally. Whether or not you think too much, it's learning how to think accurately that's the trick. Once you can think accurately, you'll see your natural disposition will be cheerfulness.

The only thing that bars us from a naturally cheerful disposition is our thoughts. That's it. Specifically, it's the thoughts that contradict reality that gets us. It's the thoughts that tell us that if things were different than what they are right now, then we'd be happier. To try and make this point sink in, IT IS OUR THOUGHTS WHICH DEFY REALITY, NOT REALITY ITSELF, THAT CAUSES OUR STRESS AND MISERY.

Imagine you are sitting in a comfortable chair, pleasantly just gazing out the window, you feel at peace. Nothing is on your mind. Then, suddenly a thought hits you, "Why hasn't my friend called me in a while? Doesn't she like me anymore? If she liked me she would have called me by now? It must be my fault. If I were more likable, then she would have called me..." Now you are feeling miserable thinking about your neglectful friend. What many people don't get is that those THOUGHTS caused the feeling, not the fact - the reality - of the situation (the friend not calling). You were fine, ok, at peace before the thought, then after the thought you were feeling bad.

Ok, so most people think, then, that reality now must change to match our thoughts in order for us to be happy. In that example, your friend should call you pretty damn quick and give a good explanation as to why they haven't called. Well, seeing as you have no control over the actions of others, that's a pretty lousy position to be in waiting for a phone call from a friend before you decide to be happy again.

The way, I realized, to truly find happiness is by taking the stressful thoughts and diffusing them. The specific process I use I found at www.thework.com (free and full of help to get you started on learning how to effectively question your own thoughts).

Basically, when you work through enough stressful thoughts, you come to see that everything is ok as it is now, even if you are feeling stressed in the moment, you come to know that even that is ok and will pass eventually. You realize everyone and everything is exactly how it's suppose to be because that's the reality of the situation. You see where it is futile putting expectations on others you have no true control over, even yourself at times. And, when you feel ok in the moment, when you don't feel neglected, hurt, offended, put-upon, judged, abandoned, threatened, isolated, different, out of place, unattractive, and so on, then your natural disposition will be cheerfulness.

Being emotional is a very great asset as you can be more sensitive to many facts of human life. The only thing you have to practise is how to utilise these emotional feelings for the betterment of others.
In today's mechanical world we find people like you are a rare commodity. Now i having found one in you iam glad to request you to remain as emotional as you are every moment but use these with a humane touch for making many miserable lives cheerful.
One need not be a wealthy or very educated person or you don't need any investment for the same.Just watch a beggar or an orphan or a destitute or a old abandoned person .Be with them hold their hand just talk to them or simply hear them pour out their woes for a few minutes.Lo Behold you will definitely see a spark in their eyes and a smile since they feel less burdened and more happy as they have found out a peron who can empathise with them.
And this smile in their eyes will bring a treasure of cheerfulness to you and make it worth living.

You are probably thinking about things in the past, or worrying about the future and get depressed because you are afraid bad things will happen. Try living in the moment - RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW - practice positive self talk and keep asking yourself "What do I want to do right now?" Make sure the things you decide to do are positive things you enjoy that don't hurt others. If you work hard on this, you will begin to notice it becomes a habit and makes life much more enjoyable.

Read books, watch movies, get together with friends and family, exercise, etc. Basically, do whatever you can to divert your mind from thinking. Once your mind doesnt have time think you, it doesnt! And once you stop thinking about yourself, you just live the moment you're in. Once you're in the moment, the past, future and all petty other things just dont come to be. Just keep yourself busy and have a positive outlook on life.
And if you're really up to it, start reading 'Pride and Prejudice'. I personally think it is the ultimate stress buster! Enjoy!
