I think it all depends of the magical powers of the thing that is being killed. and also for a little bit of dramatic effect. i know for a fact that he is dead, as his portrait appeared in the headmaster's room, and that only happens when you are no longer a headmaster or headmistress. and i highly doubt that on his way down, or after, he signed his retirement papers. he's dead, that's the only explanation, but no, he was not a horcrux. if any other person is a horcrux, its harry, but i have my doubts about that too. although the changeling hypothesis is indeed intriguing and the thought of harry having part of voldemort's soul in him explains a LOT.

Good question, I wondered the same thing. Here is what I think: Maybe Dumbledores powers were strong enough to almost repel the curse. But at the end, since Dumbledore was already weaken, the curse blasted him away. Remember that Dumbledores powers rivaled Voldermorts at Voldermorts highest point (before he attempted to kill Harry). Now Cedric fell spread eagle. Frank Bryce (Goblet of Fire) just crumbled to the floor. The spider (Goblet of Fire) just twitched and died, but had previously been tortured by the cruciotus curse. In Half-Blood Prince, the death eater that was killed, is said to have been hit by the killing curse and just dropped death. So, I guess it all depends on the power of the wizard or person being killed.
Hope that helps.

Cedric didn't crumple, though - he was spread-eagle on the ground, which means that he was thrown back.
Some have suggested that the power of the spell-caster has an effect. Wormtail had enough to push Cedric back to a spread-eagle position. Barty Crouch Jr. (Mad-Eye) only used a little power to kill the spider. But Snape put a lot of power behind his Avada Kedavra, as evidenced by the hatred.

Because Dumbledore's resistance to the spell was different from Cedric's or the spider's. Perhaps it was not really the spell that killed him, but the fall from the tower. Or perhaps the spell was what killed him, but not before some of his power rebounded onto Snape.
We'll just have to wait and see if this it in fact a clue to something more. But I do not agree with those who say that Dumbledore is not really dead. I argue that he may in fact still have a great deal of influence even though he is dead. Remember that his portrait is everywhere on the chocolate frog cards.

It's similar to the explosion that occurred when Voldemort tried to use it on Harry when he was an infant.
Dumbledore has a Horcrux. This is why Rowling has said the character is causing her so much trouble, even though he's "dead."
Remember, that the "Unforgivable Curses" were authorized for use against Death eaters, and ONLY Mad Eye Moody is mentioned as having never used them.
Dumbledore also said that you don't have to be a dark wizard to occasionally use the dark arts.
Remember how at the end of "Goblet of Fire" Dumbledore had a "Look of triumph" on his face when he learned Voldemort had restored his body? This was because Dumbledore learned in that moment that he too, would be able to create a new body once he died.
When someone who has a Horcrux is killed by avada kedavra, they're blasted back.

This is an EXCELLENT question, and one I've been pondering for months! I know JKR insists that he's dead. I hope she explains more on this!
