My mother has a 93 geo prism, she wants to fix it up but doesn't know if it's an 1.6L or a 1.8L how can you tell the difference?

Typically open the hood and there's an emissions sticker some where that will tell you the displacement of the engine.

Or take the vin number from your car and enter it here:

http://www.autocheck.com
or
http://www.carfax.com

You can use the "free" part of the services and they will tell you the size of the engine.

The standard Prism had a 1.6, some of the LSI models were upgraded to the 1.8

By the V.I.N number call the chevy dealer in your area give them that they can find out for you...Or lok under the hood for a Emissions Lable, that also should have the engine size, its very small print but its on there.
