My son is 9 months and my wife and I want to get his ears pierced (yes both of them)? His grandparents are against it. Should we get it done?

Called Clare's accessories and they will happily do both ears on a boy. So it can't be that unusual.

I'm slightly surprised by the amount of negative answers. We don't plan on bling. Just a pair of simple small gold studs.

1. You can get any babies ears pierced once they have had there 3 month shot.
2. Believe me I dont agree with getting a boys ears pierced because i believe that the only babies that should get there ears pierced are ugly girls who you cant tell if they are girls or boys so you pierce there ears because you dont want anyone asking or calling your daughter a him.
3. Keep in mind... ( i dont know if he is an only child or not but) babies ears are pulled on a lot. By themselves, by siblings, at day care, etc. infections start easier that way.
One of my best friends has twins and she got the little girls ears pierced I think at 8 months and by the time she was 1 year she had had so many problems. I know it might be something special between you and your wife to get your sons ears pierced but think it through:

1. do you want everyone to think you have a girl? If you want a girl that bad go jump in bed.
2. infections are inevitable for little ones. Plus hes going to be learning to walk soon what if it gets caught.
3. maybe wait and use it as a learning experience for him. It takes responsibility to get your ears pierced and keep them clean and infection free.
4. Will it still be something HE will want in 5, 10, 15 years? Let him make that decision. when hes 13 or whatever and he says he wants it then go for it. But he's only a BABY. remember that

No No No No NO no no no. Don't do it. It looks awful and really chavvy. That child might not want to get their ears pierced. It is unusual for a boy to have both ears done he might get picked on when he grows up coz girls have both ears pierced. Why don't you wait till he is older. And also if you don't like it when it done and you take them out it will leave scars. What happens if the piercing gets infected. A nine month old child does not have a strong immune system and might not be able to fight the infection like an adult. DONT DO IT !!!

does it really matter if it is unusual or not? Claire's accessories are after making money not the welfare of your child. There are many reasons why i wouldn't have my own daughters ears pierced at a young age firstly a small child will only want to pull them out and they are also likely to be prone to infection. I'm a young parent and i have learnt that sometimes grandparents really do know best x

Although piercings can close up they will always leave a mark, so why don't you wait until your son is old enough to decide for himself before you scar him for life?

On another point, most people do assume that someone with both ears pierced is a girl so if you do get this done then be prepared for people mistaking your child for a girl. Also prepare yourself for him being bullied at school for having 2 earrings like girls have.

No just wait, he might turn out to be the type of little boy who doesn't want earings or piercings, let him have a choice, he is your son but he's not a possesion like a dolly.

Just read the answers and as a straight male, I would like to let 'GIMP' know that you cant become Gay from having your ears pierced, come on, you must come from astrange part of the world if you really believe that!

That is SO horrible! Why not get him tattooed at the same time, and a septum piercing? I think you have no right to do something to another human being who has no say in the matter - if he wants one when he is older its up to him. I have lots of piercings but I chose them myself. Also Claire's Accessories are not registered piercers and they use piercing guns, not a needle. Guns carry bacteria. And to think, you probably go to lots of effort sterilising his bottles etc, then you would expose him to someone elses manky ear bacteria! mmm nice. Or is HE just being treated as an accessory complete with bling?

Oh good lord no! It's bad enough when people have baby girls' ears pierced, let alone a baby boy. Ear piercings SHOULD NOT be done until the child is old enough to both decide it is what they want and they are also responsible enough to manage the after care.

All I'm going to say is its your son, your choice, but if your looking for an opinion i would say only get one done, i don't want you to take offence to this but if someone sees a little boy with to ear rings they might mistake him for a baby girl, or think of when he goes to school, kids can be very nasty and i doubt they will be used to seeing a boy with both ears pierced, think of the bulling he might get in school, we are suppose to protect our children from bullies, not give people a reason to bully them. but like i said at the start its YOUR baby, its YOUR choice, i just hope you really think it through

I can't stop you but I wish you wouldn't, why not wait until he is old enough to make the decision himself? he is only a baby and has no say in this at all, personally I couldn't inflict unessesary pain on any of my children for the sake of fashion but it's your baby and your decision at the end of the day, bear in mind also that he might not thank you for it when he is older, depending on the fashion at the time, he may get bullied for having peirced ears.

i personnally wouldn't because you can't be sure when your childs 7 or 8 if he wants them or not. think about school as well, he could get picked on for being the only boy in class having his ears pierced not just one but both. i would wait until your child is 8 and ask him yourself . i don't see the rush. also what if it gets infected are you willing for your son to go through having an infection for something that doesnt need doing.
