It is rare that a novelty song influences society. Usually the novelty songs reflect the society that produces them instead. Listen to some of the Weird Al Jankovic parodies and you will see that they reflect the times in which they were made, along with many other novelty songs.

novelty song are just for that novlety not meant to hurt or be more for fun. In a society that doesnt look passed technology and material items in majorities novelty song bring it back to "orginial" fun with out having to buy it.

I dont think anyone really knows. People are wierd, the sooner we all accept it, the sooner we'll stop looking for aliens.
