True, but as a "border" state, many Kentuckians fought for the South during the Civil War. Ergo, a memorial to those who did and died.

While it is true that Kentucky was a border state and citizens from Kentucky did join the Rebellion, the STATE of Kentucky did not send any troops. The citizens from Kentucky that joined the CSA armies were formed into units by the CSA, not by the government of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Second, the Commonwealth of Kentucky did not put up Civil War memorials to "our confederate dead", citizens and relatives of the dead soldiers did. It was done by the relatives of the dead soldiers to honor the soldiers themselves and also to promote their political cause, the glorification and legitimization of the treason of the rebels and the furtherance of their racist ideals. Most Civil War memorial were not put up immediately after the war, but many years later(mostly in the early 20th century).

For instance, Montana has a similar memorial to "our confederate dead" even though Montana was not only not a confederate state during the Civil War, but it also wasn't even a Union state during the war, being admitted to the Union in 1889.

Kentucky had people fighting on both sides. If you look around, you'll probably see another memorial to their Union dead.

This falls into the "healing" category. The problem with a civil war is the fallen on the losing side often go unacknowledged. Kentucky chose to honor all the fallen.

Kentucky was not only a border state, but it provided thousands of troops to the South. Kentucky is honoring its citizens.

Being that it was a border state between the north and south, many Kentuckians fought for the Confederacy.
