Hola,
I've lived in Spain and visited Mex, CR, DR, PR, Arg, Chi, Ven, Gua, and live near Miami.
I just see that Hispanics are usually more social and there's more conformity in your culture than in the Anglo culture.
I think you do things in groups more than we do and accept more friends into your group. It's really nice of you, but you guys will invite people along that we wouldn't invite. And then if you want to do something independent from the group, the Anglos will just let you go, but hispanics say "Why are you leaving? Don't go, stay with us, etc."
I admire your inclusiveness and love for your family, but I'm more comfortable in my culture because I like to do my own thing and not always go along with the group. Also, if someone in my family offends me, that's it, they are not in my life anymore. You Hispanics seem more forgiving, really.
As for the family and money, your comments make you sound young. Try to work some more and invite some loved ones out and pick up the tab. Money stress is a hard one to deal with, so try to understand your parents' stress in that area.
Just be yourself and have fun! You'll find who is fun and right for you.

I think it depends on both the circumstances and the person involved whether one is open or closed minded. For instance there can be some very closed minded people, well I know a few, who are very tolerant (almost to the point of open mindedness, you'd think), just because of who the other person is. That's one example of where an exception to the rule applies. But for the most part you need both just like hot and cold in the physical realm of thermodynamics. For without the interaction between hot and cold or opposites, life would become stagnant and entropy. That would not be a true reflection on life. So in the end I do acknowledge the existence of both sets of minds. And at the same time note the exceptions and the natural outcome of the interaction that occurs between them. Society as a whole does move forward. That's what I think.

now i don't know your friends, so obviously i can't speak for them, but personally my imagination sucks. When i dream and imagine different things, it's not the stuff that can't happen in real life. It's what would happen if my mom won the lottery... she could put me through college, she could buy the land that she's been wanting. She could pay off the loan on the house. All things that could happen. I imagine falling in love. I imagine all those things that happen in real life, and happen in the movies about real life. but my brother on the other hand is the opposite. I don't know, i think that each person is different. It's all about the side of the brain you use to think.

People are often closed minded because they are afraid of things they don't understand or don't want to understand. In fact, if you aren't in contact with something or someone on a regular basis, you probably won't have much to do with it or them. That's why people of differing bakgrounds often don't mix as easily as others of the same or similar backgrounds. Unfortunately, people often get stuck in a routine and as a consequence, don't enjoy life like they may once have. In the example you gave of your family only being interested in paying bills. I'm sure that if they didn't feel such pressure to be responsible, they would relax and enjoy things more.
