Additives on the whole are generally not worth the money even though many do work as claimed.
The only thing that is a must is to use a fuel injector cleaner every 2 months at least , preferably every month.
This saves you money and your engine will last longer.

I have a 2000 F-150. I use STP gas additive. I put it in every 2 weeks. (that's 2 bottles a month) I pass the emissions test with flying colors every year and still own this truck today. I was asked the same question as what I have been useing to help it pass. STP is a good product!

There are a couple of additives I've had extremely good luck with. Both are complete fuel system cleaners including fuel injector nozzles, intake manifold, intake and exhaust valve and most importantly combustion chamber cleaners.
#1. Chevron fuel injector cleaner.
#2. 3M Fuel system Cleaner.

Both are available at NAPA and Car Quest. I've used the 3M product for the past 5 months and I think it's a little more aggressive and does a slightly better job. Anything with the 3M name is not some fly by night snake juice.
