Guild Wars Prophecies or Guild Wars Nightfall?

I am thinking of getting Guild Wars instead of WoW because you don't have to pay monthly fees, but i have never played guild wars before, so should I buy the original one (prophecies) or should I just go ahead and buy NightFall

It doesn't matter. Each game is stand alone. I'd buy Prophecies first because I like to start at the beginning, but some folks will recommend Nightfall first because you get heroes (customizable computer NPCs that tag along with you) and that makes things easier if you can't find real player to play the missions with or if you prefer not to team up with real players.

they main differences between them are the classes you can play as, the skills in each game, plus the quests and regions. you guys can play together in the PvP and stuff but the PvE is locked because each game has its own unique region.
