The McCanns were told by police that a publicity drive would have no effect on 'finding' their child and would only encourage nutters. Both these have come true in spectacular fashion.
It was never clear why anyone would think that 'publicity' was going to 'bring Madeleine home'. It's still not clear what the rationale is, because no one has had the nerve to ask the McCanns how they envisage it helping in the slightest, why they're doing it or for how long they intend to keep up the fiction.
The family were so bullish when it all started, running around a lot, making a lot of noise, starting websites, employing PR companies and legal teams.
And all to cover their own grotesque failure simply to be in their children's company when they needed most protection.
That night - as on other nights - they chose to leave three children under four unattended for HOURS just so they could empty alcohol down their craws.
Egomaniacs, who listen to no good advice, even when their own judgement has been proved so criminally flawed that they now have two children instead of three.
And that, believe it or not, is the FRIENDLY version of the McCann actions since the disappearance.

A high profile case like this will bring out the nut-jobs and cause effort to be wasted, but I don't see how that can be helped. Not being a police officer, it would not surprise me that lion share of an investigation will lead to dead ends. Unlike TV, real police work is the methodical ruling out of most possible scenarios down to a few probable scenarios, which in turn could lead to the crime's solution.
So, my answer is no; if Maddy was taken out of Spain (which is possible) then the campaign should help. As poorly as the campaign has been run (in my opinion) it is still better than nothing.

Publicity is a double edged sword and usually attracts nutters. To make things worse for the McCanns, they are know to have collected a great deal of money, so some unscrupulous people will see this as rich pickings.
I have said before that nobody is going to forget that Madeleine is missing so the McCanns should cool it.

I think it gets a bit much even for here when you start holding the McCanns responsible for the attempt to extort money from them, don't you?
Neither you nor I have any idea what is going on behind the scenes. They appear to have decided to place their faith in the police to follow up on leads when they come in. Seems a sensible approach to me.

this story has been on every newspaper, website etc all over the world...isn't this what the mccann's wanted? now because of all the publicity there are going to find themselves where people will try to extort money from them think they've made their own beds.

Maybe if we had a child abducted we might know why. How many of us would sit back and wait for the police to bring our child home. I for one would be out there doing my damnedest to find her and if need be I would use the press.
Leaving their children on their own was wrong but I think it's time to stop slating them and concentrate on other news.

I can't understand why everyone seems to be against the Mc Canns, what on earth is wrong with people, one would think they wanted it to be them that did it. shame!!!!
