Yes surely i am strongly against this practice but for my disappointment some people in africa still practise it despite it's endless problems!!!!!!!!!
I think ignorance is the main reason of this,do you agree with me?

I don't know how many answers you will get here in the US, since this practice is almost exclusively performed in Africa or the Middle East. I suppose a few immigrants might have brought the practice with them, but I believe in a lot of places it's actually illegal. I certainly would not do this to my daughter and depending on how the procedure is done, it can either lead to simply loss of the ability to have sexual pleasure or in more extreme cases, frequent urinary tract infections, difficulty with menstruation, and difficulty with vaginal births.

If you haven't read it, Alice Walker's book The Secret Possessing of Joy is about this topic and you might find it interesting.

1. No i am not.

2. No i would not.

3. I seen something about this on the discovery channel once... I believe it is done in some third world countries i cant exactly remember which one(s). But removing the clotoris how could that be useful for any woman???? If it was harmful and people died from it i doubt that they would still be practicing it. HOWEVER it is harmful to your sex life.. Not being able to be stimulated that has got to suck

1. Are you circumcised?(and if the frequency of circumcision is high or low in your country)
No and not at all.

2.Would you do this to your daughter?
Never.

3.What's your opinion whether this process is useful or harmful?
This process is harmful because it can cause infection, death, and it prevents the women from ever feeling any sexual stimulation in her clitoral area.

MUTILATION not CIRCUMCISION!

1. NO, I live in a civilised country, it is of course banned, even to take kids to other countries to do it, but I'm sure it still happens sometimes
2. NO WAY!
3. Everybody knows (should know) it is incredibly harmful and has no purpose.

1. No. Female circumcision is illegal, and thus rare, where I live.
2. Absolutely no.
3. It's dangerous and can lead to lifelong medically problems.

Hi

I live in Eithiopia. I work as a labourer earning about 30 cents a day. I am a 'stay at home mom' but work 15 hours a day to feed my 6 children. Luck for you, after I heard that you posted up this question, I took the 11mile trip into the city so I can partake in this intellectual discussion re: female health. Thank god for the internet.

(1) I am Eithipioan. I think the rate is quite high here.
(2) Would I do it to my daughter. hmm........lemme just think. The way it goes is that I discuss the issue with the board of women's health. Then I go to my local GP for medical advice on the health ramifications. I tell my husband to "fcuk off" if he insists against this pratice. He cites 'cruelty' and a whole load of other bulhsit. Crickey, it's not his decision anyway! Who needs to listen to a man anyway regarding a WOMAN"S health issue?
(3) My opinion on the issue? Yeah, I love it. I looked forward to it when I was 5 years old. It was much like getting my first orgasm.......wait, i really wouldn't know what it feels like. People say that it is the most painful experience they have ever had in their lives. I disagree. THe pain wears off in a couple of years. And as far as the emotinal scars are concerned - well, they're just up here in my mind.

Thanks for listening. I hope my other colleagues in Uzbekistan, Sudan etc could take the time out to answer your email.
peace.

No woman in any CIVILIZED country should have this done to her. It is mutilation! There is no way in hell I'd let this happen to my daughter! There is absolutely no use for this practice. It HAS to be banned and the people who do this need to be prosecuted!

I saw a video in a health class one time of girls this happened too, it was VERY traumatic! Most of the time they lose all feeling down there, and sex is not enjoyable it becomes Extremely painful and will cause them to bleed, everytime they have intercourse. Who could do something like that to someone they "love"

1. No. Very low / non-existent.

2. No, neither would I to my son. I have no right to cut chunks off their genitals while they are unable to consent.

3. Causes significant reduction in sensitivity and possible pleasure.
