If they were truly lying about their ratings they would be off the air. No business will continue to offer a product that isn't profitable.

We don't need a fairness doctrine. Just because Rush has a larger audience doesn't mean the Republicans have a better chance of winning. If fact...anyone with half a brain would realize he does more harm than good to the cause.
I listen to Rush.. his rhetoric weakens his message. Yesterday, he spent over 30 minutes talking about John "Brett Girl" Edwards hair. How can anyone take this douche bag seriously? There is no substance in what he says.. he spends most his show talking about Bill Clinton or Edwards hair. Edwards is not a threat to be a real candidate..so what's his point? It's all just hate filled crap. Listening to him daily encouraged me to vote Democrat last election, and that is no lie. I didn't want to be on the same side as him (or his retarded parrots)
He makes my skin crawl every time he uses blanket statements suggesting all Democrats are liberals. I'm not a liberal, and probably more conservative than most Republicans (certainly not a Neo-Con) But, I'm terribly insulted by the man and his show. I could never be on the side of hate and evil.

I'm a liberal and I don't really agree with the fairness doctrine, but I see where they come from. It is in our national interest that no voice be supressed. It is important to hear all viewpoints and to get the truth. It's important so that when you go to the polls and vote, you vote based on truth, and not someone elses opinion.
That being said, I don't think that the government has the right to step in and tell a private organization what they can and can't say. And the fairness doctrine would do that. It woudl require private news agencies to cover stories that they normally would not.
If perhaps it's a public news agency that gets federal money, like PBS or NPR, the federal government has a right to tell them what they can do with the money. Otherwise, I think they should butt out.

I love your question. Liberals have correctly understood that any conservative media will swing a close election against them. They have to do something and lying is part of the game. I like your "so called" label you apply to the "Fairness Doctrine". I wish it could be pointed out even more that because of its ultimate objective it is misleadingly named. Unthinking people say, "I am for fairness." Keep it up.

I don't think that liberals are "afraid" in this respect, but anyway, the fairness doctrine deals with access to broadcast airwaves and has nothing to do with how many people listen to a particular broadcast.
One might just as well ask why some are afraid of allowing equal and fair access to the public airwaves, which belongs to all of us.

I think the ratings of Air America prove that the rating of conservative talk radio are accurate. The ratings are published by industry ratings services. They are available for review by any subscribers.
You ask "What are liberals so afraid of?". I answer, "Truth".

Because the cut and run liberal cowards think it's all about them and nobody else! They think it's alright to attack Republicans, but it's NOT alright to attack the Democrats. We live in a double standard world in this country, and it's about time it stops! Vote for reform in this country next election!

They're afraid of everything that apposes their own slanted views and people who don't see things through their eyes.
They also know that if they can't shut Fox or conservative talk radio up, that they'll likely end up losing the next election (again).
Have you noticed the sheeples and parroting all morning? LOL

Conservatives got the prime spots on the AM radio dial. Only so many channels, makes sense to me that cons inflate their numbers.
