(providing they get on ok of course). I hate the idea of my mum going into a home with a load of old grans in armchairs...she's coming to live with us and she's over the moon about it. I'm sure that with love and determination we can make it work. We'll have our ups and downs, but one day at a time we'll be fine. I would just suffer more to think of her in a home or continuing to live the lonely life she has now in sheltered accommodation. Family is everything and nothing can take it's place.

MMM I think this depends on the family and whether or not you lived with them growing up. I am not going to tell a person whose ma or pa abandoned them when they were young that they have to take them in but they were never there for them.

As more of the poulation ages more c hildren will have to make this decision.

One thing i do know is that boundaries have to be set. If you have a parent who is a pack rat or who doesnt believe they have alzheimers this can be a danger zone.

If you have a parent who is still active or semi active but needs some help this can be a great situation for all

Most children need to remember though that they stll have to respect their parents and give them privacy. I love the King of Queens becuase their dad moved in with them and showed us all that it needs to happen while they are still of sound mind, LOL.

LOVE is the factor here-things will not be easy but your LOVE for one another will make it easier to compromise.

this was a great question-it will be interesting to see the response

depends on how everyone feels about the situation. perhaps you need to understand there are advantages as well as disadvantages to anything one can do. there are retirement communities where one can have a " blast " as there are activities of all kinds and even single people whom one can become acquainted with.

a lot can also be based on the physical condition of the person as to how much care they need now compared to their future. there are times when living with another relative can be disturbing. each has their own life to lead and how mobile and willing is the family to take the person with them on family outings. if the older person wants to go to the park, library, museum, etc. are they going to be catered to or are they going to be ignored because of other family members wanting or needing to do something else.

suggest a very serious talk with the person and if the older person raises objections to moving in with a family member then this is their decision as well as the family members the person is considering moving in with.

i do...i just hate it whn the kids send their parents off to old-age homes, while they migrate off to some country...i believe that if circumstances are desirable, then the parents shd without doubt be looked after by their kids...after all, they taught us almost everything we know, looked after us at least for abt 18 years, and are still there to provide a shoulder to cry on...won't we be able to provide them a loving shelter in the latter half of their life?
