I had to think about this and here is where I ended up.
If you had asked me this when my own children were young then i am ashamed to say the answer would have been no.
They come first and i would want to be around to forefil my responsibilities to them, right or wrong that how it is.
Ask me now, now that they are all grown and need me less, then yeah I would.
I am not sure it would be for the right reasons though, I would do it more for me, it would give me the chance to balance the scales on my own life, you know, do something good to make up for the shitty things I have done.
it would free the child so i suppose the motive does not matter a Rats ****.
I bet i am going to get a real slagging for this post.
Oh well, I have tried to be honest with it.
Edit
Feck it and this question !!! I was having a good day until I answered this now I feel like ****.
Edit
Oi Jim G I know we have not always agreed but Hey please do not put me in the same category as Fiona4281....
Cold hearted I may be (At times) but I do not share her views on children.
Respect.

its easy for some people to flipantly say yes on here, if it really came to it I am sure the % would be very low. I am pleased to see that many of the parents like me have considered the effect on thier own children before answering. Why would you want to swap the suffering of 1 family for another. the fact that she is 3 means that she has more recovery time than most. Sorry if I sound cold but i think a lot of people have tried to say what people want to hear without giving an honest answer. Or answered with thier hearts and not thier heads which is nice but not helpfull.

I would because children are precious, innocent and deserve the right to live, more so than most adults on this planet.
EDIT ;, Fiona4281, Why do you say kids are not the be all and end all, they are the future, without them there would be no future, besides, they are innocent, especially at 3 yrs old, what harm has any infant done to anyone, I thought some of the Anti McCann's were cold blooded but, they don't have a patch on you.

After first ensuring that my son would be well taken care of, i would. I would also be in cohorts with the cops & train myself to survive the experience & do my best to nail the creeps. It would be a difficult call but i hope i could do it, 'cos i'd hope someone would do it for my child. If asked to & if i'd refuse i'd never be able to sleep another night knowing that thru' my selfishness someonelse's baby is scared & not being well cared for.

Even if it isn't MY daughter, I have a daughter. I have 3 children. So, I know that if taking her place would ease the heart of that other parent, I'd have to do what I would be desperate for someone to do for my child. I would take her place.

I would do it cuz it's moraly right and I wouldn't want a little girl to go through that...

But you're a strange one for thinking up of this question...did you just watch "Man on Fire"?

If i had to do it without thinking then i would say yes,i have four grandaughters of my own up to the age of seven, and cant bear to think what Madeline may be going through could happen to them, lets face it you dont have to leave your children alone for them to be abused.

In a heartbeat. Don't mean to sound flippant but really, if it was one of my kids there's no question, it's instinctive. I'd console myself with the thought that groups in Nigeria don't usually kill hostages, they do it for some financial or political gain so the chances of winding up dead are probably low. Now if we were talking Iraq or Afghanistan.....

If it wasn't my daughter then no I wouldn't swap places because then my own child could end up with no parent. A mother's love comes first for her own child or children.

If it was my child I would do it without any thought on the matter. If I didn't have a child myself I would try to save any child by swapping places.
