Perhaps his greatest personal achievement was being Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces during World War II. While in office, he initiated the Interstate highway system. As he left office, he actually balanced the federal budget (something that's rare for a Republican!). I think his greatest achievement was warning the people about how the giant U.S. military-industrial complex would hijack the American taxpayers (which proved to be an accurate and fair assessment). -RKO- 07/06/07

Ike's greatest achievement was he realized on immigration issues that senators and congressmen were short-circuiting his Executive Orders. If a farmer needed laborers and INS was being too strict, the farmer would call his reps in Washington. The rep would then call the INS and demand changes. Ike transferred the northern INS agents to the South and the southern agents to the North. The next time the reps tried to call the INS, they didn't have the person's name of who was in charge at that particular office. Illegals that were apprehended were bused 300 miles into the interior of Mexico before being released.
Ike's tenure was an era of good feeling. The mythical time when the growing ownership of Black and White TVs showed pristine housewives serving snacks and wearing pretty white gloves. Ike warned America about the Military-Industrial Complex and how it would shanghai America's economy.
In Ike's background was his Vice President, Tricky Dick, the Red Scare, the Hollywood Blacklist and Ike was the first prez to send military advisers to Viet Nam.
Ike's strength was he wasn't a Republican. Ike balanced the federal budget. Ike, was however, the poster child for the Republicans. Ike was a War Hero.
America was just so innocent back then. Anyone could mail-order a hunting rifle from Sears and Roebuck's catalog.

His greatest achievement, as President, a 5 Star General, a conservative Republican, was his statement to be very cautious of the Military Industrial Complex.

His greatest achievement came before he was President, when he was Supreme Commander for the Allied Forces in WW2. After that I would say his closing speech to the nation when he warned us of the Military Industrial Complex.

I think President Clinton was a good man. Eisenhower was a conservative and I am a liberal but I can agree he was a good President.
