I got a "talking" bird and that thing drove me nuts. First it was expensive, then it never talked, EVER! Cleaning the cage was so frustrating. Then it just made noise until I covered the cage. I was so happy to give it to my auntie, that still has it by the way.

What pet did you regret buying after you got it?

a tarantula. i was afraid to pet it after i touched it's rear end, and it turned on me like a vicious little monster, rearing up and exposing it's fangs. then i kept it in a bird cage, BIG MISTAKE!
i didn't think it could get out between the wires, but it could, and it was loose in the house. we didn't find it until my wife was doing her daily constitutional, and came out of the bathroom with her bloomers around her ankles screaming! apparently the spider goes for a source of water, which was by the toilet. stick with normal pets, like dogs.

When I first started my 'career' as a ferret owner :) I regretted it, however, I wasn't irresponsible enough to pawn the little guy off onto someone else. I researched and researched and researched until I found out why I was having the problems I was having. They were all behavioral and easily correctable with a little bit of effort. This was years and years ago. I currently own 3 and I am happy with the little buggers now that I know much more about them.

After my second pet cockateil passed away, I found an ad in the paper for a "teenage" bird which was free to a good home. So I picked it up, took it home and realized it was an old mean bird who I could never so much as take out of the cage. I had it for 7 years until it passed just last month.

The only thing that I have ever regretted buying in regards to pets is crazy crabs. They are smelly, there food goes moldy, the cage is impossible to clean out and it is a general hassle. I gave them to my brother after one bit me and he LOVES them.

I also have 2 guinea pigs and 2 dogs - all of which are mischievous but seriously cute!!:)

I got a parakeet, and wanted to teach it to talk. Then I found out how much work it was, just to get it to pay attention. And like you, I had to clean out the paper, clean out the cage, and it made lots of noise.

But we could have fun with it, by letting it out of the cage occassionally. And I did learn how to be responsible and how to take care of a pet.... so I was prepared ofr all the work, when I got my first dog.

I've had this fish for at least 7 years. Don't get me wrong, that made really become attached to it, but if I move, I don't know what I would do with it. I've never heard of anyone taking their fish into the moving van.

Once, I bought a hamster (thinking I could pet it all day),but all it would ever do is bite me, so I gave it to a hamster breeder for free. Was I ever glad to find a good home for it!
