You may be learning "touch" typing, which uses all your fingers, without looking at them or the keyboard. *MOST*
keyboards have a "qwerty" arrangement, which comes from a time when people *had* to type slower, because a mechanical "typewriter" would jam up. With computers, it
is possible (but unusual) to switch to a Dvorak System Keyboard, which is actually faster if you learn how to use it.
If you have $$ and a computer of your own, you may also wish to try speech recognition, software which listens to what you say and types it for you.
