I would say ofcourse there will be many problems involved in it but you would have to take many things in a theoretical mode. First you would have to assume that there are enough materials on earth to make a construction of that size. Of course there is not. Second you would have to assume that we possess the knowledge to supply enough power to an object that size. Third, you would have to assume we could supply enough oxygen for an object that size. If we had some kind of power source much more advanced that what we have now, an unlimited supply of material, and some advanced method of oxygen scrubbing I would say it is possible. I disagree with one of the posts stating that the gravity of the object itself would crush it due to the fact it would take a very dense core for it to do so. The moon is large and it has I think 1/8th our gravity due to the mass. Even if we built a "deathstar" gravity would be the last of our obstacles. Good question though

well i think you are not saying can we build it you are saying can planets be destroyed, some people don't understand the question before they answer.
i would say probably. if you had a laser gun that sent out both pulse and electric beams and concentrated it on the core of the planet somehow. then the core would become too hot because of the electric current and the planet would expand making the crust weaker and weaker, then you could create some sort of shock wave from something else, the shock-wave would brake the crust apart eventually the very hot molten lava will be puring out burning the surface of the planet like the surface of the sun. the extreme heat would create extreme pressure in the atmosphere of the planet crushing everything. but that object would have to be very big to do that.

yes and no, we dont have the technology to build an actual deathstar to blow up planets or anything but a replica(not the real thing) of the structure we can do.

particular it might. If the two applicants are eligible in accordance to the form in accordance to age, years interior the u . s . and being a organic-born citizen (and have not already served too some years or been elected too many situations), the only different impediement is they'd desire to be from diverse states -which McCain and Obama are, i'm resisting the temptation to assert McCain is from the state of readiness and Obama from thes tate of bewilderment -whoops! didn' resisit it complicated sufficient. i'm attempting to choose if that value ticket might win or lose, even nonetheless it could be a landslide the two way!

The previous answers are missing the point. I think the answer is "no" because, when you start bolting or welding together pieces of metal, once it gets to the size of a small moon, certainly it will just collapse under its own weight / gravity. I

No. The resources aren't there to build something as massive as the Death Star.

Sure why would it not be? Of course it wouldnt exactly be a cake walk, and i dont foresee anything like that being built soon though haha..
I just thought of something... Wouldnt it just be easier to convert a small planetoid body into a deathstar?
I dunno but im ready to start exploring the universe...

Not without substantial funds and massive development effort. At present, the world is most likely to occupied with terrorists.

I hope not. The contract would probably go to Halliburton and the cost over runs to the taxpayers would be ridiculous!!!!
