We've notice the bees are smaller this year some are really tiny. We've had white butterfly's and a few Red Admirals but not as much as usual.

Yes - I'm on the east coast of the US, and our butterflies are way down from normal levels - a couple of whites and that's about it. Wasps and bees are also down here. The honeybees have actually been declining here for about a decade or more, but I've only seen a couple this year where I used to see dozens and dozens The good thing about that is that the tiny bumblebees and the leaf-cutter bees are making a comeback, but the big bumblebees seem to be down as much as the butterflies I don't know whether it's warming, increasing use of those chemical 'lawn-care' companies or what. Our weather 's been the inverse of yours - mostly sunny and dry.

No, it will just be a normal year for them! When it rains for a long period of time in the summer the butterflies will die off or hibernate but a large number of caterpillars will be feeding ready to chrysalise for the next batch of butterflies. The bee's will return to their hive's until its warm enough to collect pollen again, during winter they hibernate. There were only more about last year and the year before because it was unusually hot and dry, a perfect breeding ground for masses of insects
Dont rule out summer yet..... we're only in the beginning of July, we've yet to experience the hottest period, Mid-July to August

Yeah thats true actually you've just made me notice. I haven't seen one butterfly which isn't fair they are so pretty. Me and a friend were having lunch yesturday and there were bees flying round the food all the time so i don't think they have been affected. Haven't seen a wasp though-yet lol counting my blessings on that one!

Well I live in Chicago, and to be honest, I've seen about 15 monarch butteflies fluttering aound the past week or so. The weather has been a little shifty, but it does feel like summer, and the insects are definitely out to prove it. If the weather in your location isn't so warm, that could be one of the factors why nothing has emerged. Maybe the insects and such need a comfortable environment for them to roam in.

Honestly, I was thinking the exact same thing a few days ago, where are all the butterflies? When i was young we saw lots of white butterflies and colourful ones throughout our summer holidays, now they've vanished. I believe global warming is partly to blame, most of these poor creatures don't know whether they are coming or going.

well, they're not daft, they won't come out when its bucketing it down with rain! Mind you, it's good for the weeds, so there's more food for caterpillars and more pollen for bees - the first hot sunny day we get the whole country will be swarming with the little critters!
