I read this statement somewhere...

"There is no such thing as an illegitimate child, only illegitimate parents!"

Legally, it came from the idea that to be considered legitimate, a child's parents had to be married to each other, in order to inherit, but now this concept is old fashioned.

I think I'll stand by the opening statement.

A child that's mom and dad are not officially married.... the old word was bastard and now they say illegitimate. I don't know if there is still discrimination for legal reasons like there used to be though.

NO CHILD IS ILLEGITIMATE IN THE EYES OF THE CREATOR

An illegitimate child is one born out of wedlock, meaning the parents aren't married.
They used to be known as a 'bastard' but this has become an unacceptable term to use.

In ye olden days an illegitimate child could not inherit property, these days though it is hardly relevant how or when you where born.

An illegitimate child is one born out of wedlock (parents unmarried). In the past such a child would have no legal rights to inheritance etc.

Illegitimate child is a horrible name for one conceived out of wed lock. They should call it something different though. No child is ever illegitimate - they live, they breath, and they have feelings!

An illegitimate child is one whose parents weren't married at the time of birth. I'm not sure if you remain illegitimate if your parents marry later on, though.
