LCD monitors aren't the same as CRT monitors. Don't try to change the resolution!!!

Use ONLY the "Native" resolution AND Screen Refresh Rate as specified on the manufacturer's web site for your LCD monitor.

Then, right-click on the Desktop and choose Properties to open the Display Properties Window. In Display Properties > Settings TAB, set the correct "Native" resolution, then click on the Advanced Button, then the Monitor Tab to set the correct Screen Refresh Rate.

Re-post if you want bigger Icons and text on the Desktop.

TIP: Bigger is better.

Resolutiuon is the amount of picture and color dots you can squeeze on a certain size screen example 15.4 inches.
Laptop screens are standard Resolution unless you a pay a premium price where you will get extra high resolution (SXGA or UXGA)
So basically
14 inch laptops and 15 inches will be roughly
1024.768 pixels
as the screen gets bigger in size there will be higher resolution.

As i said previously only some LCD's will have a higher pixel ratio then standard. Example ASUS G2s I saw on MLN's website.
http://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=237&typeID=
15.4 inch screen but there resolution is roughly 1400pixels by 1xx something. That is more than usual. Thats because it is a SXGA screen.

Screen size is your own personal choice, take travelling and usage in consideration. If you move alot and do little work gor for 14inch and less.
if you doing a bit of both for for 15 inch.
If your not moving around at all
go for 17 inch
:)
I always use http://www.mln.com.au to check out compare lappies and shop for cheapest prifces.
