The lightning's speed is always about the same (45 km/s, depending on consistancy of the atmosphere), only leaving you a tiny little bit of more time to jump to the next safe eucalyptus tree due to a small increase of distance by its zigzagging "detour". May you always have such lucky jumps!

It's the same speed. Lightning finds "holes" in the atmosphere to travel down to the ground or to another source of conduction. The route is always open and when the positive charge of lightning fills up the path it connects with the negative, thus creating a flash.
