Does anyone know where I can hire cars for a decent price? Like a Pay As You Go car rental service. I need to rent a car from time to time to do my fortnightly shop as my car has broke down. I don't need it for holidays or the like. Please Help!!!

No it would not be cheaper to use a taxi. Minimum fare is £8 in a cab where I live and thats without stop offs. A taxi would be double that. If I can hire a car for say £5 per hour (as I used to do before the company stopped doing car hire) then I can use the car for say two hours and make a few stop offs. Therefore a taxi would not be cheaper.

Cheapest Car Hire I know is CAR HIRE 3000. They are very competetive and they are also country wide.

You town/city may have a car pool/share where people pay a fee to join and can use one of the cars as they require, see http://www.shareacar.com/. If you live in London, there's a pay as you hire for around £5/hr. See http://www.streetcar.co.uk/.
