I know someone who went for a job at an indian restaurant but the person who owns it.. said to him he couldnt work there as he wasnt an indian.. (only wanted a waiters job).. so not cooking..

if you get me...

Do you think an English person could say that and get away saying that?

i.e. working at an English pub?

im not Racist.. was just wondering..

Any Views...

It would be classed as racism if it was vice-versa. That's the UK for you now. I live in Greece and a friend of ours is opening a huge venue for weddings etc.., he told me that I wasn't good looking enough to work there, personally I think I would have rather he said it was because I wasn't Greek!!!

I was working with a Russian in the UK recently. He said that he wouldn't like to be white, native English and male in the UK, because everyone seems to have rights apart from them.

I'm not racist either. I think everyone should be treated equally, but I am sick of the inequality towards white people that is now tolerated in the UK.

May be the owner wanted someone with knowlege about Indian food? There are many dishes/condiments which generally are not served together, which Indians know from childhood, but a person who is not an Indian would have to be taught.

Yeah if it was the other way around you'd probably get protests in the street.

Unfortunaltey, genius (sarcasm) politicians have created a thing they call 'positive discrimination'. Whereby they tell some employers that they have to have quotas of employees from certain ethnic backgrounds.

Sort of defeats the purpose of equal opportunities doesn't it? They are saying that in order to be fair and not judge people on their ethnicity, you have to...erm...well...hire people based on their ethnicty.

Flucking ridiculous

EDIT : to the GENIUS above -

"one of the few places that there was and indian society so he probally waned to keep it that way"

Have you ever heard of India? erm...they live in England therefore English society. If you want to join the English society then great!! come on over. If you want a different nations society, then move to that nation.

If I want to be able to legally smoke cannabis and get prostitiutes, I'll move to Holland - but I shouldnt go there and then tell them I want it changing to how it is in my home country

Yes ! I know exactly what you mean .. and when " non-Indians " do get jobs in Indian establishments they are treated like Dogs....There is an Indian Restaurant in Hamilton near Glasgow - opposite the Police Station - . my family walked out one night in protest at the way in which the young girls where being "Barked at " and " pushed " around by the Indian staff.. But -- that's not racism - is it ?!

That is definatley discrimination. You could imagine the uproar if a english pub said that to an indian.

That is wrong.

well english people get away with alot more things than an indian person would
so if this one of the few things they can get away with let it go and dont mind its not racist
english people made it this way for themselves
and the reason the owner probally said no was because it was one of the few places that there was and indian society so he probally waned to keep it that way
