Ummm why would you want to! The whole point of AVG updating as you switch on is to protect your computer as soon as you go on line!

after you uncheck the avg software using msconfig, create a new shortcut on the desktop with the pointer to the avg in msconfig.
this way when you need avg again, you can manually activate the avg software.

This is an important program to keep on your computer as it does keep it safe from internet threats such as viruses, trojans, worms etc. I too find it annoying having it start up without you telling it too. For me it usually starts at eight o'clock in the morning which is really disruptive for me. but getting back to your question. Everyone so far has told you what you can do to disable it but I would strongly advise to persevere with it's annoying behavior as there are far worse anti virus software out there. Norton antivirus nearly destroyed my computer. Unbelievable but very true. Sorry I couldn't help you much on this question as what you wanted to know has pretty much already been said by other users. I hope you find a solution to your problem that works for you.
