Yes, not always visible, sometimes just a presence.

In the house I live in, 2 or 3 times a year there is a strong smell of someone smoking, of a dirty old man or stale kind. It's always in one particular place and no obvious reason for it - non smoking house. I only found out recently that was where a previous occupant, male, had collapsed and died.

I can sense an old woman in the house sometimes too, the first time was the day after the wife of the above male had died, I didn't know of her death until a few days later when neighbours went to her funeral. I assume she comes back to find her husband - they had lived here 40 odd years. Perhaps they'll meet up one day and go off together to where ever ghosts/spirits go.

Yep.
I don't see anything, but I have heard completely unexplained noises on one occasion.
Two of my mates and myself were staying in a bothy in the Scottish Highlands in the middle of winter. This bothy is ten miles or so from the nearest road, and three miles along a rough track from the nearest other house.
It was about ten at night, pitch black outside, and we were sitting by the fire in the front room. We all heard heavy footsteps approaching from the outside, the porch door opening, and someone going straight up the stairs and into the room opposite the one we were using, then turn around, walk down the stairs and stop outside the front room door. And that was it. After a minute I opened the door. No one there. The porch door hadn't opened again. We looked around the entire house, inside and out, and there was absolutely no one else there.
In the same bothy, we'd camp outside rather than use one specific room in the far end. I got horrible dreams the one time we used it, and my best mate refused to go to sleep in it.

For anyone who's interested, the bothy is called Shenavall, it's in Strath na Sealga behind An Teallach, and it's free to use. No electricity, no running water, just four walls, a fireplace and a roof.

Being a researcher of the paranormal I really believe in your statement.. But I also know that not all home have a ghost in them....I also know that some homes have been haunted for years and yet the family inside had no idea as to what was going on until some one gad some happen....... The worst thing to walk into a home looking for spirits and after find none... You finally see that one member of that house-hold is possessed, And the spirit with-in him or her is what has really been the cause of that house hold being haunting...... I mean its really scary when you are about to tell the family that we can found no ghost and then the dad or mom attacks a member of the crew with a gun or a knife or a baseball bat and the entire crew have to wrestle them to the ground and restrain them so that the crew can preform an exorcism, Which could take and hour or a few days... Can really play havoc with your nerves...................................................................

I suppose that would depend greatly upon what your definition of a 'ghost' is. If you think of the cheap horror movies on in the middle of the night, and they go around saying "booooboooooowhooooooo", or dragging chains around or slipping throiugh keyholes, generally scaring the occupants of the house because they died there and still consider the house to be theirs and don't believe that they ought to be dead yet....... well, who knows,, really? I've never experienced anything like that & I've lived in a lot of different places.

If your definition of a 'ghost' is more like a sense of a presence in the room once in a while, although there is no one there AFAYK, I believe I've felt such presences from time to time. They might just be figments of the imagination, or they may be real souls or spirits of people whos bodies have stoppd working, but the essence of the soul and/or spirit that were embodied within are still trying to get their bearings in order to move on to where they may be going... or.... who really knows. The mind though is powerful, and can play very convincing tricks on people in different often vulnerable situations.

What do you mean sometimes? Houses have ghosts all of the time, trust me. They may not neccesarily be a spirit of a dead person either. All houses have an aura. Some people can sence it, and some cannot. This energy always affects the people living in the house.

The stories of Ghosts is as old as time it self so there must be some truth in it . Sometimes if a place has a history of violence, or great fear/love or anger it leaves a energy that comes forth like a movie film and relives its adventures till the energy loses its power to manifest,or it gets settled in some manner to exit this plane of life. Yes I believe in Ghost.

Yes I do. I also believe that they have evil spirits as well. You never know the entire history of an old house and what might have been drawn to that particular house and if it is still lingering in the shadows or not. I would suggest doing some research on any house of old before purchasing it. And possibly having someone to come in and clean it of any evil spirits or ghost that might still dwell there.

Yes i do believe that houses have ghosts in them.

My friends house is an upside down house (walk in and your on the top floor as it is built on a hill and you go downstairs to the bedrooms) and her bedroom is very large yet there is no bedrooms under the porch just a wall, this is because the man living there before had blocked it off as his young son had died in that room. They decided to leave it blocked off and i stayed over at my friends house and she told me that the mother of the child also died in this house...but in her bedroom and that she sometimes comes into the bedroom to tuck her in, that night the ghost must have came in and tucked her in because in the night we woke up and she was tucked in right up to her neck (which she is not allowed to have done as she has really bad asthma) and i was also tucked in yet i couldnt move, i think this was because the ghost was still tucking me in. I also believe that my own house is haunted as things frequently go missing and i often hear mumbling and doors opening and footsteps, even when im alone in the house. I'm not afraid of these though, as they would not try to harm you and are basically your friend...I also met my great grandma in my grandmas house when i was younger and did not know who it was so when i went downstars and told grandma that a lady had let me read my story book to her she was very confused...it then recognised her from a photo graph on top of my grandmas tv...we were bothj rather freaked out, especially as i was only 5.

Sorry its so long but i thought i'd share just a few stories with you :]
xx
