I own a 2001 BMW 330ci. Lately when driving at slow speeds (usually when coming to a stop) I notice that when I apply the brakes my car wants to pull to the left. Could this be a sign of a bad tie rod?

Also, please include cost estimates on how much a repair like this should cost. Thanks!

look at the caliper's and to see which one is grabbing may have to get a brake service done you might be looking at around 300.00 for it i would be on the safe side and have the rotors turned or replaced along with the pads and brake hoses

I would also guess that it is the brakes. As you feel it already at slow speeds it is something you should have looked at the earliest possible. Having the brakes checked at a good repair shop is a matter of minutes.
Guessing how much it will cost is difficult as I have no idea what has to be done. Changing disk brakes and pads at the front should not be more than 1 hours work but that does not include parts of course but it can be of couse something different than that (hydraulics etc.).
Problems with the brakes are seriuos problems and whatever it costs to have it repaired it's probably cheaper than crashing the car. THe brakes are really the most important thing on your car if they fail you are a danger for yourself and others.

If the pulling to the left is only when the brakes are applied I suggest that you have a problem with the right hand brake. It could lead to an accident with serious consequences so better to fix the probelm sooner rather than later.
A brake reline, disc machine and rebuilt brake caliper will be the possible repairs required and for a BMW this will not be cheap. Maybe budget for about $600

You need to take it in to a reputable mechanic and have them look, it could be a balance or alignment issue but it sounds more like your brakes. Usually if it only pulls when you brake it is one of your brakes either not working (the opposite side of the pull) or one side is braking harder than the other (the same side as the pull). Either way you should get that fixed soon.

There is an acronym called K.I.S.S. it means Keep It Simple Stupid. I am not implying that anyone is stupid I just think that this could be a situation where this acronym fits well. One of the most common reasons for what you are discribing is low tire pressure on one or both of your left tires(expecially the front tire). Check you tire pressure with a tire gauge, the pressure your tires should be is printed on the sidewall of your tires. As you decelerate, any decrease in tire pressure will always cause your vehical to pull to that side. Please let us know if this is the case, as simple and stupid as it sounds, I bet this is the cause. I found this out by accident one day when I was comming back from the track I forgot to fill one of my tires back to its normal opperating pressure and everytime I hit the brakes it pulled me hard to the right. I called my brother cause I thought i had a serious problem. He told me to check my tire pressure and sure enough that was the cause. Let us know, I hope Im right cause its a simple fix.

Although braking system could be involved, my experience tells me the more likely causes would be under-inflated left front tire or wheels out of alignment.
With a bad tie rod, you would likely notice a vibration at speed.
In any case it's a serious safety issue.

You might want to also have a look at the lower control arm bushes, they could also be worn. Replace them only with BMW originals though as other makes wear out quicker. Other causes could be that the wheel alignment is out. Hope this helps you

if it is an extra worn tire with a shaking steering wheel as you brake, that's a bent wheel rim. otherwise i'd suspect fouled pads or maybe water in your hydraulic lines. for a major brake job, with the imported parts and everything, i'd ballpark the bill between $140-200.

sounds to me like you have a braking issue. Most likely a leaking hydrolic line somewhere on the right side. Could be a few other things, but this sounds by far the most likely to me.

Your front brake caliper is rusted and sticking on one side.Or the pads are gone
