Well when u insert a tampon for the first time and you are a virgin then it will hurt a little as you are breaking the hymen. Once you break the hymen it is not sore at all.
Since you do a lot of sports there is a chance that your hymen could already be broken, so the insertion of a tampon will be pain free.
No, tampons cannot get stuck in the vagina they have nowhere to go. When you insert a tampon be sure to leave the string at the bottom of the tampon out so you can pull it out easily.
Before i go, you cannot leave a tampon in for over 8 hours as you could get a rare but serious disease called TSS (toxic shock syndrome) don't let this put you off using tampons because as I say it is very rare.
If you want to break the hymen yoursekf you can push your finger up your vagina and that will work.
Good Luck

Well Taylor,
You have absolutely nothing to worry about. Tampons just seem big and scary, but really they aren't. Because it will be your first time I suggest you do try the smallest Tampon possible. And yes, it may hurt a little, but the pain seriously not that bad. The more you use them, the easier it will be each time to use them. And never worry about them getting stuck it is pretty much impossible. The string that is used to take a tampon out is sewed on, and the only way a tampon could get stuck is if you were to cut the string for some odd reason. If and when you start using tampons, just remember to change or take them out every 4-8 hours. When you go swimming I'd take them out like every 4-5 hours because a little bit of the water can possibly get in there. Since you are athletic I would suggest Playtex Sport because they are meant for sports and protect you very well.
good luck Taylor :]
by the way starting your period is not that bad. You get use to it after awhile, and being on your period is just an other day.

They don't get stuck. They don't hurt. Some women use 2 or 3 at a time. In fact, if you are doing so many sports, they are more comfortable and cleaner than pads. Though pads are good for night time, in case you have a leak. By the way, if you are very athletic, it can delay the on-set of menses. Be sure to stay in touch with your gynecologist about your athletics.

as they said above, if you use them correctly it doesn't hurt, (u shouldn't be able to feel it) and use regular is u can with a liner to help leaks- they don't really get stuck but u can lightly tug the string before inserting incase its loose, also be sure its in all the way and always check that u took it out before u use a new one and at end of the period.... plastic applicators might be more comfortable to use especially when u just starting to use tampons- and try different kinds to see what works for u

Well, I've never actually heard about them getting stuck. However, they did hurt me a lot when I first started using them. In fact, I went back to pads for a while until sometime after I lost my virginity. Then I tried tampons again and it didn't hurt as much.
My advice to you though is that if you're going to use them, use the smallest one possible. Also, remember to change them every few hours to avoid TSS (toxic shock syndrome). I normally change them every 4 hours and never leave them in longer than 6 hours. I also sleep with a pad instead.

Tampons hurt a little bit when you first use them and if you put themin the wrong way they will hurt. Tampons cannot get lost in your vagina. And the string cannot come off because it is sewn into the tampon. Hope this helps.

they are fantastic and hurt only if applied incorrectly. generally the cause of the pain is the tampon is not inserted high enough. learn how to become comfortable with your body and to touch it, this will make life much easier for you. your vagina is no different from your ear or nose.

Tampons used correctly shouldn't hurt or get stuck.
Cramps hurt worse, but athletes don't get cramps when they are in shape!
