If you're seeing this logo: http://www.autocult.com.au/img/gallery/thumb/AkinaGhost29.jpg
on any car that is not a Nissan, and is not specifically a Japanese-market Nissan Skyline, what you're seeing is a car belonging to an idiot.

The Nissan Skyline GT-R is the highest trim level of the Skyline. Since the late 1980s, all GT-Rs have been all-wheel-drive coupes with longitudinally mounted straight-6 engines. They have generally had some of the most advanced all-wheel-drive in the world, and are considered by some to be among Japan's few supercars.

So then you get every ricer idiot with a Nissan Sentra (or even some other company's econobox) putting GT-R logos on their car thinking they look cool, or make their car look fast. In fact all it does is make them look like an idiot.

Very few Skylines were ever legally imported into the US (and a few more have been illegally imported.) If you're seeing a lot of this, you live in an area with a lot of ricer idiots.

That being the case, I would be very careful buying used cars.

edit: Also, Kyle M: Nismo is the Nissan equivalent of STi, not GT-R.

"GT" stands for "Gran Turismo" which is a racing class for long distance races (like the Targa Florio or the Mille Miglia) which were initially run on public streets.
THe GT class is still run on closed circuits nowadays - best known American cars in it are the Viper or the Chevy Corvette.
Many car manufacturers use the "GT" for their sportive models and often with an additional letter.
I thing "GTR" means "Gran Turismo Racing". With street cars it is simply a name to point out the sportive character of a car.
Other than AWD, EPS, ABS it does not refer to specific features.

The GTR is one of the trim levels of the Nissan Skyline. Its the highest performance version of each generation.

for instance, there are R32 (generation) skylines which is are GT's, GT-S's and GTR's.

skylines were never sold in america, but quite a few have been imported.

GTR to skyline is like STi is to subaru impreza.
