I just moved to the US after getting married. My marriage was arranged, I barely knew him. It barely lasted two months. Two of my friends have suggested that from his behavior he might be gay. He certainly didn't have any interest in me. They think I should get myself tested just in case. How do I do this? Where do I go? What do I say? Do I need to go to a doctor or can I just go to a lab? What kind of test do I need?

What kind of doctor should I go to? Does it have to be a gynecologist?

Make an appointment with a gynecologist OR go to your local health department (should be in your phonebook) and tell them you want to be tested for HIV and all the sexually transmitted diseases (STD's). They don't have to know why, but they may ask anyway. You also need a papsmear test (for cervical cancer) every year.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience here in America. I hope you find a nice guy soon.

Any doctor, clinic or health department should be able to give you an HIV test. You do not need to go to a gynecologist. Many clinics can now test with a mouth swab, so you don't have to deal with a needle.

If you don't want to see a doctor, you can even pick up an HIV self-test at many drugstores. I think these use blood, though.

Go to a family doctor, or just a clinic. Tell the doctor your concerns. Better to find out now rather than later. The doctor can advise what tests to do...probably HIV, STD..(sexually transmitted diseases). Don't worry yourself...go and confirm once and for all.

Yes, you need to talk to a dr about this issue. I would recommend starting with a primary care physician. A primary care physician would be a dr that is a General Practicioner which means that they see adults to help them prevent illness and treat illness such as a cold (an example) if it should come up.

You would need to ask for a blood test for HIV.
