There are a number of reasons people believe 07/07/07 to be auspicious, and in particular there will be a huge number of weddings on that day as many people believe the tripple 7's bring good luck and fortune. Ever heard the term "luck number 7?". In gambling 3 sevens gives you 21, which is blackjack. Also on older vegas style poker machines one of the jack pots was three sevens.
On a more spiritual note, there are connections with the number 7 in most of the worlds religions. Catholics have seven virtues, seven deadly sins, and seven sacraments. Hindus recognize the seven chakras of the body. And probably most notably for christians is that on the 7th day that God rested after creating the earth. And the 7th of july is the day of the annual lovers festival in Japan.

Actually, 9 is considered the perfect number, especially in numerology. 7+7+7 = 21. 2+1 = 3. Ironically, 6+6+6 = 18. 1+8 = 9.
666 is more 'perfect' than 777. =P Numerology-wise.
Otherwise, yeah. Just another number.

Notice the crazy xenophobe Christians who were beating their drums telling us "it's all going down on 6/6/06" are suddenly quiet when asked what will happen on 7/7/07. I am sure there is some weird religious group that has a problem with sevens though. On 7/7/07 the odds of winning a jackpot on a slot machine will triple. Get it? 7-7-7?

It is significant because a triple digit date (07-07-07) won't occur again until 08-08-08.
The superstition of the three sevens means good luck especially to gamblers and marriage.
(one and the same in some cases)
The date 06-06-06 had its own form of significance to the devil worshippers and the occult because three 6’s is the number representing the devil..
