You can submit your issue in the following website and a lawyer will contact you within 24hrs. Don't worry about their charges, Its only $1/day. So you are getting what you want in just $1. I think this you can afford. Here is the link

Tell him to listen to his lawyer. Also, getting into counseling for whatever it was that caused him to have to resort to shoplifting, would not be a bad idea (especially if there are drugs involved).
If this is a first offense and if it was not a very expensive item, your bro might be alright and get off with a light punishment. If he is a repeat offender then he deserves to get punished a little harder, a good thing because somehow he need to figure out that stealing is wrong. Also it would not be a bad idea for your bro to make sure that he is as clean cut and respectable looking in court. Also tell him to make sure that in court he looks contrite and not smug. The wrong look can turn a trial.

i recommend a criminal defense lawyer. i was arrested for shoplifting back in march and my lawyer was able to amend my charges to a disorderly persons offense. it really makes a difference to have a lawyer in these kinds of situations. only a lawyer can give you accurate information about the legal aspects of this case.

just go to court or wherever and play dumb, i play dumb all the time, it works. just say like your friends pressured you and peer pressure got to you and you didnt want to look like a loser, and stuff like that. works.
they will think youre just a kid who doesnt know better and is having a hard time dealing with peer pressure.
