Though Graeme Smith and AB Devillers have scared the heck out of Australian team many times but still without any slightest of doubt Mathew Hayden and Gilchrist are the number one opening pair of ODI's in modern day cricket.

We cant forget the Jayasuriya-Tharanga pair who currently holds the record for the ODI 1st wicket partnership of 286 runs.
Gilchrist and Hayden pair is also really good.
