That's really up to you don't you think? If you can use your computer for the tasks you need it for and it doesn't bother you then -you- do NOT need a new computer.
However, if doing your daily computing tasks you get frustrated to the point of wanting to throw your computer out your window then you might want to consider getting a new computer.

64 MB RAM is way underpowered. You have a Pentium III and didn't specify the speed but that's a fairly good chip for today. You need to look into getting the RAM upgraded if you want to keep it around. You will notice immediate speed improvements. You're very likely running out of ram now and using swap space. You can tell you are when the HD access light on your computer just stays on for no end when you try to do something.

You didn't say what OS you are running. 64M of RAM is OK for Win98. If you don't want to do any adds of programs, it will run older versions of office just fine. It should easily support IE connection. I would start saving toward a laptop as soon as you can. You will find it more useful at college if they have a campus network. Can come in very handy at the library for note taking and in group study. Plus the desk space is a lot less.

Since you do not need fancy stuff you are pretty safe sticking with what you have on ONE condition, you gotta boost your RAM to at least 256 if you are running on Windows 98/ME and at least 512 if you are running Windows 2000/XP.
My recommendation is to get at least 1 GB of RAM no matter which OS you are using if you have a little cash to spend on. Since your processor is P3 I am guessing it is running on DDR/SD RAM and because they are already out of manufacture they are costly.

I think that if you're on a students budget then you should go to best buy or office max and get a nice cheap gateway or emachine... anything would be better than what you're running right now and you can get away with about $400

A P3 should be fine for your needs I would simply get rid of the extra programs you don't nees in control panel and definately add more memory you will notice an immediate increase in speed and performance! Memory can be purchased here at the best prices! Good Luck

Only thing I'd add to it, would be some more memory. Otherwise if thats all you do with the computer, you don't need the newest , greatest , fastest...
