Once and a while I will see a reporter go up to somebody, and ask them a question. The person in question gets mad and gets in the reporters face, and the reporter will usually calmly state "Your not going to intimidate me" and usually wont flinch when somebody gets in the reporters face. I don't watch the news very much, so maybe this is nothing, but I was just curious

Media people are not afraid because they know they can make or break a politician. Just one bad attitude or behavior of a politican towards a news reporter can be disastrous to his political career.

It takes practice to maintain a poker-face and not show fear when talking to an intimidating person but there's no formal training involved.

NO, no special training other than people skills. When you're a reporter you get more hostile /negative responses moreso than positive ones, especially if you're covering politics, whether local , regional or federal, so you just learn to not let rejection and hostility faze you.

Often people do that because they think they're being smart and sassy, but usually bad behaviour makes good reporters dig further.

That's why now so many politicians , ceos etc have image consultants to hide their normal erasible nasty personalities.

They just learn how to deal with people in various states just like customer service reps at most major stores. They know what people usually get mad about and are trained to respond in a certain way. If they suck at it and do get intimidated, they would not get very far in the business.

No special training.

Investigative reporters use this as a tactic when needed, and most develop it with practice. Not all reporters can do investigative reporting, but those who do have to learn how to be aggressive and how to deal with aggressive behavior when it's directed against them.

nope, news reporters don't get training... well, at least i didn't.. hehe

as a matter of fact, i did not graduate from a journalism course.. I took up political science and it helped me understand news gathering.. well, not really..

anyway, back to the question, usually our bosses demand so much that we learn to control our tempers to get the story..

and if tempers flare, that is the story :)

It's all part of their job, it goes with the reporter's territory.
