You can check the hardware devices... make sure that Windows has recognised the audio driver.

Do 'Control Panel->System' a box will pop-up, click the 'Hardware' tab and then 'Device Manager'. Make sure there's no '?' next to any of the devices. if there is, then you do not have the right driver installed. go get your dell CDs.

Another place would be the audio control, make sure your sound hasn't been muted. Sometimes things like that happen and you didn't know about it. So check 'Control Panel->Sound and Audio Devices', and make sure things like the volumn is up, and the mute is not checked etc.

hope that helps...

You do need to see the sound drivers are there. This is a good way to check. Go to start and Control panel and on the left side click "Switch to classic view" then open "Sound and Audio Devices." On the screen that comes up there should be a volume slider and some other options. if all that is grayed out and the top says "No audio device" then let us know. We'll need to get a sound driver installed.

With a lap top, the first thing to check is whether the overall volume control has been muted or turned way down.
