I am looking for a snappy lots of horns / strings up beat...any help suggestions welcome

Early 1900s, huh? A lot of horns? I don't know when "big band" became big but I imagine that is what you want. The best big bands were those led by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman. Other prominent early big bands were those fronted by Fletcher Henderson, Lionel Hampton, Louie Armstrong, and Stan Kenton.
