I got into that situation right after 9/11. I couldn't find a job anywhere and I had a wife and daughter. Luckily we were able to get on foods stamps and that got us through until I did finally find a decent job. Now we're fine, but I was sure glad the aid was there when we needed it. I know people abuse government assistance, but others really do need it. It's that final safety net when all your other options fail. Would I LEAVE my kids though? Why would I need to? Thankfully, as bad as that time was, because of the help we got, it never came to that.

Yes I definitely would, but I would take them with me. I would seek out help from everyone I knew including the government. We are lucky to have social programs in the United States to help people in this situation. No one should have to go hungry anymore. It might mean moving from a rural to a more city like environment, but I'd do what I had to for their survival. When times got better, I'd make sure my kids got all the benefits from the better life too. Clergy can often suggestions as well as the Salvation Army, and county government. Go to a local library, do some research if you have to. Never give up on your kids, you are all they have. (I am not a professional, just my personal opinion.)

The head of the household may have to leave to make some money to support his family. However, it is also equally important that you not be gone too long either. The kids need to know that Dad is coming back soon.
You may have to think about bringing them with you when you find a steady job somewhere.

No ,my mother never had money to feed us but we always had food to eat. Sometimes we had soup for dinner and other times it was pancakes. Other times we had to wait for my grandparents to get done eating so what ever was left over we had for our dinner. She would call my mom to let her no they were done eating to come and get the left overs. My mom had 7 kids she had to feed but she did it all by herself.

you don't have to have money to feed them...I'd work for food, work at a resturant and feed them what ever I could take home...a family needs a provider...it can't be if you leave them .
