What about mortgage? Will I get offered the same mortgage products as Americans? Planning to move from Canada to Houston, TX the end of this year.

As long as you have a green card or a resident alien card and a social security number you can get the exact same loan as any american.

Now if you dont have a Social or resident alien card you would have to start a company (my suggestion instead of personal). The company could buy the property but now you are looking at a cash transaction.

Its based soley on your visa status. If you have a green card, resident alien card, no resident alien card, E3 Visa etc. You have every right to the same loan as any citizen. Rates are exactly the same as those for a US Citizen.

How much you have to spend is going to dictate where you live here. (I'm in Houston). If you have good credit then research the area where you want to live, find a decent real estate broker and then go get the financing at a bank or a lending institution. The things you want to check for down here is...The property taxes, does the area flood, the schools, and are other homes selling in the neighborhood...Good luck.

No, there are no restrictions anywhere in the US. Substantial portions of US real estate are owned by foreign nationals and corporations.
