I've heard this too. Granted, not all Americans say this, but I have read countless comments from Americans stating they have 'more' freedom. And the question arises: more freedom than whom? Like everyone else though, some Americans are well-read and and interested to learn about the rest of the word, and some are inherently stupid (like all races) and are blissfully unaware that world does not consist of America only.
Take that idiot's comment above that everyone wants to go to America. A pure case in point. If everyone worshipped America to that extent, then there'd be no wars involving the US would there?

Why does asker assume the United States thinks this? The United States is a country -- it's an abstraction. It cannot think. The people in the United States do not believe they're in the only free country in the world.

I don't know, I am Canadian....our true north strong and free....and we have free health care too...
I don't think it's a bad thing to think of your country as the best...but I know there are plenty of other great places out there..
and for freebird...I do not want to go to your country...we have everything we need up north....

I know we're not. If anything, we're one of the worse countries about this. We are NOT free, and most of us don't believe we are. The problem is that what the rest of the world sees regarding us is the f*cking stupid government officials that would give anything to get more money and just a few more votes. No one sees the individual civilian's opinion anymore.

Who thinks that? I'm an American and I certainly don't think we're the only free country in the world. In fact, I don't know anyone that thinks that.

Maybe because the majority of the nation chooses who leads us. We aren't bound to having one single family rule our entire nation.
No country is totally free my friend, no country.
