I had wrote a check for $8000 to put down for a car at an used car lot and financed the rest through a bank.?

Some problems came up and I was only able to cover $4000. They still have my check and are pressuring me for the rest. The bank has the car title. Can the car lot take the car away? If not, what else can they do?

An eight thousand dollar hot check is a felony. If you don't make it good they can have you arrested and you won't get out until you have paid it. You can't convince many jurors that you made a small 4000 dollar error in your account innocently. You could be in serious trouble here.

Possibly, since checks are accepted subject to clearance by your bank. No pay = no sale. They can also sue you for the $4,000 and even press criminal charges for writing a rubber check.
