I am interested in singers in the broad category of Rock and all its subgenres, from punk to heavy metal to rockabilly. I would like to know who you think has a very distinctive singing voice--a voice that you would recognize even if they were singing a gospel hymn or the Happy Birthday song.

I am pretty sure I would recognize:

Stevie Nicks
Chrissie Hynde
Ric Ocasek
Michael MacDonald
Ozzy Osbourne
Stuart Adamson (though he is dead, so I won't be hearing anything new from him)
Sting
Chris Cornell
Janis Joplin

There are others, but those are the ones that leap instantly to my mind.

Whose singing voice would you recognize? And can you tell me the bands they have been associated with, please, in case I have a hard time placing their names?

Thanks for your consideration of my question.

Mr. Wizard:

Stuart Adamson was a scotsman who was one of the founding members of a band from the 80s called "Big Country"--they are mainly remembered for guitar work (his and the other guitarist's) which sounded like bagpipes. He had a wonderful, soulful sort of voice. He killed himself in 2001.

And the thing about Night Ranger? I get confused the same way sometimes with The Eagles--just when you think you have it down, they stick a mic in front of Joe Walsh or Glenn Frey.

Who's Stuart Adamson??? I'd recognize each of the others you listed the second they sang one word. I'd also recognize Rod Stewart, Steve Walsh (Kansas), the late Brad Delp (Boston), Robin Zander (Cheap Trick--and a huge vocal talent),

The band that throws me, because three members sing solo on various song hits--is Night Ranger.
