Best: Reagan - Defeated the Soviets and brought an end to 50 years of a stand-off that could have destroyed the entire world. Provided the ground work for the economic booms of the 80's and 90's. Gave America back her teeth after the dual embarrassments of Vietnam and Carter.

Worst: Carter - Destroyed the economy. Coddled the Soviets. Created an artificial gas shortage through mismanagement. I don't know many people that lived through this era that would disagree.

Best - FDR - Franklin Roosevelt faced the greatest challenges of any President in American history. The Depression had destroyed the American economy and made many of the middle class poor and even hurt the upper class in many respects. On top of this, he had to deal with 3 megalomaniacs running foreign countries (Hitler, Mussolini, and Tojo) who would force Roosevelt to lead America into the largest war it would ever fight while most of America's politicians, wanted nothing to do with the war.

Worst - Richard Nixon - Campaigned on "peace with honor" and only managed to get American POWs out of Vietnam, and was unable to persuade the American populace that some presense in South Vietnam was needed to protect it. Then had the nerve to spy on his own people and to justify it, said, "when the President does it, it's legal."

best - there hasn't been one yet. the next one will probably be it, if only by comparison. Clinton was pretty good at the beaurocracy and glad-handing, GHW Bush was pretty good at providing material for the late night hosts (before his son took over that position), Reagan was pretty good at the fake smiles and empty promises, Carter was pretty good at making people feel guilty, Ford was pretty good at making people feel better about Nixon... the list of their individual skills goes on. Lincoln doesn't count, because history hasn't painted an accurate picture of him, starting with the fact that he didn't give a f*** about the slaves.

worst - does that question even need to be asked? the monkeyboy currently occupying 1600 is the worst, hands down.

Anyone who made it through the reign of President Carter knows he was by far the worse. Massive inflation, spineless foreign policy (I personally blame him for today's problems in the middle east, as they started on his watch), catered to terrorists, abandoned allies and did nothing to instill confidence in our government.

Best, I'll still stick with Reagan. A lot of the economic growth that occurred under both President Bush and President Clinton can be traced directly to the economic policies of the Reagan administration.

best is a three way tie: FDR, for having the foresight to realize the threat nazi Germany posed. Lincoln for reuniting the states, and of course Washington. he gets on the list by default.

worst: Bush: while i believe his intentions in Iraq were altruistic in nature, his planning for post war affairs was obviously lacking, leaving the U.S. in the undesirable position it's in now. he has deprived the U.S. of all the goodwill it garnered after 9/11 and has revitalized regimes such as N.Korea and Iran. even Russia's getting pushy now.

Best - Reagan. He saved us from a terrible economy, ended the Soviet Union, and was just a great leader.

Worst - Carter was not the worst, but pretty far down there. I really cannot say who is the worst.

Best - FDR. For preparing America for what was ahead, and setting the base idea for the principles that we'd need.

Worst - Bush. Completely ignoring your people is not the way to gain popularity, or credibility. He's drug America's name through the mud, and our International reputation has been shattered.
