Moving out of state to Rhode Island from Cali?
Please Help?
Work is accepting a transfer for hire pay also but nothing else.

You'll have to discuss that with your landlord. If your lease provides for a penalty for breaking the lease that's generally what you'll have to pay. If it doesn't, you'll be liable for the full remaining term of the lease or until the landlord places a new tenant.

The landlord does have an obligation to make a reasonable effort to re-let the place to minimize your losses. The courts in many jurisdictions have ruled that 2 months is sufficient time to place a new tenant so that may help to limit your liability but local conditions could alter that either way.

Of course, you and the landlord are free to negotiate any terms that you can agree upon. Just get everything in writing so there won't be an repurcussions down the road.
