I want to write a novel and I have all my character descriptions with me but I'd much rather write freely than do an outline. Is it any better to write a book with an outline vs. not having one?

I'm partially lazy about outlining my book plus all the ideas I have about the story are just exploding in my head like fireworks.

I'm just like you... I don't like to outline since it destroys the free natural flow of the story. BUT, the problem comes along when you approach an agent or publisher. They need an outline to check out the structure of your work.

So if you want to publish, I think you need an outline. You can do it after your done with the story.

Forget about the outline! You are writing a novel, not a college paper. I would say just go with the flow and wherever your inspiration takes you. Describe the images in your head, write scenes. The fresher a scene or a character is in your mind, the more creative force you will have and the better the scene or the character will appear on paper. Go where the mood takes you. A novel is very mobile generally and the best of them are change constantly as they are being written.
Worry about organizing and structure once all your ideas are spent.
Good luck!

Follow your instincts. If you're more creative without a structured outline, so be it. Remember that you will be introducing character substance and sub-plots as you go along and you will be editing your work several times before you're satisfied with it. Write it the way it feels natural for you.

Best of luck with your writing,
