The US may have the edge over Mexico right now, but Mexico is still the better team. Even with their recent success against Mexico, the US still trails in the all-time series by a wide margin. Also, while Mexico has not beaten the US on American soil in 9 years, the US has never beaten Mexico on Mexican soil. Most importantly Mexico keeps on proving that they are the most feared team from the CONCACAF region. Mexico has just finished in first place in their group and the US has lost all three of their games. Mexico actually has a good shot at taking this edition of the Copa America, while the US has once again been a dissapointment at a major competition. All those who say that the US did bad in Copa America because they were missing key players, should keep in mind that the US chose not to take their best players. Even if the US had taken Donovan, Beasley, Dempsey, etc. to Copa America, they still wouldnt have beaten Argentina. The US simply can not compete with these teams yet, while Mexico can and continues to do so.

Beat Brazil & Argentina? JAJAJA.. don't make me laugh... if you beat Brazil the last week, it was because of 2 things: they didn't have a good night... and they main players weren't there.. and for Argentina.. when the hell did they beat them... I mean, it's otherwise.. Argentina beat Mexico on the World cup 06... and so in the U-20 World cup...
To the topic, US has a very good team... specially the youth team in U-20 World Cup.. soon they'll be a competitive force.. Mexico on the other hand, is a second hand team.. and they can be a formidable team sometimes... like Paraguay.. nothing more...

The way to tell which team is best is to have them play each other. In the last ten years the U.S. has the clear advantage over Mexico both in the U.S. and at neutral venues. Who knocked out Mexico at the 2002 world cup? Mexico wins at Azteca stadium but I think that has more to do with altitude than fan support. At the final of the Gold Cup in Chicago Mexican fans outnumbered American fans perhaps five to one - hardly a home field advantage - and yet the U.S. still won.

USA we won the last few and in the Gold Cup we don't even have our good players like Landon Donavan or Freddy Adu
so of course we will not do well in the Gold Cup. Also Brazil is not starting Kaka, Ronaldinho or Ronaldo. Making Mexico's win not seem as amazing

USA might have won but now Mexico has new players and a new Goalie...if they play now Mexico will win hands down 3-1..i mean they beat Brazil and the only reason USA won is cuz of that penalty that wasnt even a penalty

ummm in the last 12 head to head matchups (dating from June 2000) the US is 9-2-1 including the recent concacaf gold cup final
I think that pretty much answers your question
